Four-angled bean plant is a coil round type and needs stake to climb. It is often planted as a short term plant at vegetable garden or at the house fence. It produced a fruit called Winged bean about 15 - 20 cm long and has 4 serrated wings. The Winged bean also known as the Goa bean, Asparagus pea, Four-angled bean, Four-cornered bean, Manila bean, Mauritius bean, and Winged pea. Winged bean is nutrient rich, and all parts of the plant are edible. Leaves can be eaten like spinach, flowers can be used in salads, tubers can be eaten raw or cooked, seeds can be used in similar ways as the soybean. Pods can be eaten unripe as a crunchy vegetable. Seeds can be roasted like peanuts. Roots can be eaten raw or cooked. Tubers are high in protein and nutrient rich. 4-angled bean is a fruit vegetable type which is very high in fat and protein content and vitamin A & B. It is origins from Papua New Guinea and South East Asia.
